What is Gas-to-Power?

Natural gas will continue to play a central role in the energy mix, but how is it used to produce power, and what are the benefits?

The term Gas-to-Power (GTP) describes the process of converting natural gas, typically ethane and methane or other petroleum gasses, into power. Natural gas accounts for about 22.9 % of global energy consumption, of which approximately 8.7 % is supplied as LNG.

Although demand for fossil fuels has decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic and is predicted to decline in demand for years to come, natural gas has remained resilient, especially when compared to coal and oil. However, according to the EIA the long-term impacts on global energy demand and industry structures due to the pandemic are unknown. The world’s energy use is expected to double by 2040, led by regions with accelerating population or wealth growth, such as India, China and several African countries. Efficiency, flexibility, and reliability are required on the path to a zero-emission future, making GTP increasingly important in the energy transition.

The idea of petrol conversion begins with us, in our usual drive to proffer solution to many challenges in the power generation in sub energy sector, our team of engineers started looking for alternative source of fuel to petrol with aims of reducing highly cost associated with fusil fuel, we tried several things including biomass {solid fuel} but we realized that the rigorous process that come s along with that discouraged people from embracing it.

Propane: we resulted into propane as a result of formular of conversion, ordinarily gas generators are factory-produced engines but in our clime, 99% of generators are petrol and diesel generators and this reality brought about the conversion of the existing generators. We introduced the idea by designing conversion kits that would allow the end user to run their generator dually, we trained people of different categories; technicians, end-users and many others who saw business opportunity came on board and they took the idea to a different part of the country and it now becomes what it is today when the subsidy was removed it became so popular that people started converting their generators, businessmen, and women took the samples of our conversion kits to China for mass production. However, we are glad that the move started with us.

It is cost-efficient when it comes to installation time, physical footprint, and rapid response to emergencies.
